Hey friend! πŸ‘‹

Popping in with a quick post to share a few tangible tips that might make your Fourth of July festivities even more spectacular πŸŽ†

These are a few tips and tricks I wish I would've known sooner that I just couldn't keep to myself...

1️⃣ First on the docket... Sleep Routines

Please do not stress yourself out if your baby or child's nap schedule is not exactly normal today or any day. Sleep is so precious, but kids are way more adaptable than we give them credit!

My best advice? Prioritize a solid nap in an ideal environment before the evening festivities, and even get a nap in yourself if you can 🀫

If a nap-on-the-go is your best option, pull out the trusty carrier or wrap and let the good times roll 🎢 (Trust me, carrier and wrap naps DO NOT DERAIL SLEEP. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise!)

Shop my favorite baby wrap here, and save exclusively with "INFANTINSIGHTS10"

And when / if your child stays up later than normal, LET THEM if you're enjoying yourself! Pop your toddler another popsicle, or let them watch a late night movie with friends to extend your stay. YOU DESERVE TO HAVE FUN THIS HOLIDAY TOO. 😘

2️⃣ Second... Swim Safety

I've been on a bit of a rant about swim safety lately and it's only because I've experienced a few water scares myself. Here's a few easy tips to keep in mind if you're around water this holiday πŸ‘‡

➑️ If your child wears swim floaties or a puddle jumper, put them on BEFORE YOU ENTER THE POOL / SWIM AREA. This helps prevent your child from jumping in without the protection they are used to, and gives you a peace of mind while you get your bearings upon arrival!

➑️ Dress your kids in neon colors πŸ’š so you can spot them in & out of the water easily. Trust me, bright colors around water can reduce the risk of drowning and are so helpful!

➑️ Allot a water watcher (or two!) anytime you're near water with the kiddos. The best way to keep our kids safe around water is close supervision &/or a lifeguard. Also, be sure there are sober supervisors if drinks are the event vibe πŸ₯‚πŸ»

3️⃣ Third... Choking Hazards

There are about a million choking hazards at a BBQ, so I want you to be aware of what those are:

  • Whole grapes πŸ‡
  • Hot dogs 🌭
  • Balloons 🎈
  • Marshmallows
  • Raw veggies πŸ₯•
  • Chips, pretzels, popcorn 🍿
  • String cheese
  • Whole nuts / shells πŸ₯œ
  • Any food not prepared in an age appropriate way
  • Small toys
  • Rocks / pebbles
  • Bottle caps / tabs
  • Plastic wrappers / packaging

I know you'll be on it with the supervision πŸ‘€ , but felt like a little reminder never hurts!

4️⃣ Fourth... Toddler Behavior

I have two extremely busy toddlers (2 & 3), and boy oh boy is there a lot of crying / whining / yelling at times.

Toddlers are toddlers and kids are kids. Will your toddlers act perfectly in public? Probably not, BUT set realistic expectations for you and your kids and let the chips fall where they may.

Some tips I'm reminding myself of as I venture out with two tiny humans this holiday πŸ‘‡

➑️ It's not their fault if they act out if I haven't set them up for success. This means we have to prioritize a nap if we will be out late and their environment should support their developmental level if I want them to thrive.

➑️ Clear boundaries are set before the outing, so everyone is on the same page. Not sharing with others? There's a consequence. Refusing to listen? Consequence.

➑️ Timers, positive praise, and clear expectations go a long way! Tap into these things to avoid meltdowns.

➑️ Remember, PBR (Pause, Breathe, Redirect) during a meltdown... And if that doesn't work, buckle up for some Professional Bull Riding πŸ‚ (PBR) as you ride that tantrum out... And when in doubt, pop open an actual can of PBR 🍻 if you need it πŸ˜‚ (kidding... kind of lol)

➑️ Remind yourself that toddlers are toddlers and YOU ARE DOING GREAT. There are a million toddler moms out here (it's me! hi!), navigating meltdowns right there with you!
